Soccer fans can go for gold as Cup reaches Bay
by EP Herald Khanyi Ndabeni

NELSON Mandela Bay residents will have an opportunity to view the Fifa World Cup gold trophy before it is hoisted into the air by the captain of the winning soccer team at the tournament finals on July 11.
The trophy is the most coveted prize in the world of sport. It is 36.5cm tall and is made of 18-carat gold.
The stunning cup has arrived in South Africa for a round-the-country tour which kicks off in Cape Town on Friday.
It will be on display at the East Cape Training Centre (ETC) in Struandale, Port Elizabeth, on May 12 when members of the public will have an opportunity to see it up close.
Tour sponsor Coca-Cola has a competition in which members of the public chosen by the various media companies, including The Herald, stand a chance to have their picture taken with the trophy at ETC. The Herald has 15 tickets lucky soccer fans can win for this photo opportunity.
The trophy arrives in Nelson Mandela Bay on the final leg of its global tour which ends in Soweto on June 5. By then it would have travelled across the world in 225 days and been viewed by millions of people in 86 countries.
The trophy was in Cape Town briefly for the World Cup draw in December before it continued on its global journey. A special branded helicopter will be used for the South African leg of the tour.
